Laser Hair Removal and Test Spots
Many patients ask about the need for test spots prior to treatment. Many non-medical spas advertise that they do these for free, and suggest they are vital for better results. In fact, there are several published articles in peer-reviewed journals that demonstrate test-spotting really is of little use. This is because patients often will develop mild side effects like hyperpigmentation or crusting, which always resolve, even after several treatments at the same laser settings. They are unpredicatable. At our clinic we only test spot type 6 skin. In other cases, using moderate settings, and carefully monitoring the first treatment is the best route to safe, effective treatment.

I was interested to read here that you don’t believe spot tests are very useful to determine the right settings for laser hair removal - I thought it would be helpful to do a spot test on the highest setting that might be safe for the skin type in question, so that if there were no adverse effects then that high setting could be used for treatment – hopefully getting the client better long term results. I guess you are saying that this is not the case because the side effects may come anyway? Have I understood this correctly?
Laser hair removal is an increasingly popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure. Laser hair removal is a non-invasive, convenient method to reduce hair growth.Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses laser light an intense. Pulsating beam of laser light is used to remove unwanted hair. Laser hair removal works by passing a light beam through the skin. The laser light targets dark pigment called melanin in hair. When the light beam hits the hair follicle, the intense heat destroys the hair follicle instantly.
Depending on the area being the Laser Hair Removal treatment process may take several minutes to several hours to complete. The most commonly used lasers utilize a low energy laser light beam. This laser beam passes through the patient’s skin and is attracted to the pigment of the hair. The laser energy passes down the hair shaft and is absorbed by hair follicles that are in the active growth phase, thereby disabling the hair follicle in the deeper layer of the skin.In most cases, minimal pain should be experienced and no anesthesia is required in the laser hair removal treatment.
Unwanted hair is an intractable problem. While there are a number of ways to deal with unwanted hair on a temporary basis, no conventional method promises a permanent end to this problem except laser hair removal treatment.
The Benefits of Laser Hair Removal:
1) Laser hair removal treats larger areas effectively because it disables more than one hair at a time.

4) Laser Hair Removal replaces waxing, electrolysis, shaving and bleaching.
Laser hair removal is an ongoing process that requires multiple sessions because it affects actively growing hair. In addition high laser energy levels are avoided to minimize the risk of injury to the adjacent skin. In most laser treatments, laser hair removal slows hair regrowth, and it takes several treatments to provide an extended hair-free period.Occasionally after laser treatment patients may experience slight redness on the skin or mild swelling around the hairs it would be for 2 to 3 days maximum. Sunscreen is recommended for any area that treated with laser treatment. Patients with darker skin may not respond well to laser hair removal treatments due to inadequate discrepancy between skin and hair colors. Blonde or gray/white hair is less responsive in laser hair removal treatments due to lack of ample pigment in the hair.
