Laser Hair Removal Consultation
Your initial consultation for laser hair removal should be complimentary. Board Certified Doctors should conduct all consultations. At many other clinics you may never even meet a doctor before beginning your laser treatment (or during your treatment!); but this initial medical assessment is very important.
Why is it important to see a Doctor before beginning laser hair removal treatment?
Any laser treatment requires a medical assessment. In the case of laser hair removal, the doctor needs to take a proper medical history: to ensure there is not a hormonal basis to any excess hair growth, to be certain you are not on any medications that may cause a bad reaction to the laser light, and so forth. The doctor also needs to closely examine the area that will be receiving laser treatment; to be sure there are no skin lesions that require further investigation or treatment.
Do I have to commit to any programs or packages?
There should not be any pressure put on patients at consultations, which should be purely educational. Following your medical assessment, the doctors should answer all of your questions, and you should be encouraged to think about the treatment before making your decision. Though the vast majority of patients are thrilled with their results, laser hair removal is time consuming and expensive, and the doctors should ensure that you do not feel any pressure to make your decision.
How will I know if I am a good candidate for laser hair removal?
This is a very important part of your consultation. The most important goal of any laser clinic should be patient satisfaction. The Doctor should give you an honest appraisal of your chances for success, and discuss realistic goals for you. Laser hair removal is highly effective, but it is not magic, and it is not for everyone. Some clinics employ special “consultants” who act as “closers”; since they are paid on commission, it is in their best interest to convince as many patients as possible to have treatment. Your Doctors is ethically required tell you the truth, and they should turn down anyone whom they do not feel can achieve realistic goals.
Once you are comfortable with the clinic and staff, with the goals you have set with the Doctors, and have decided laser hair removal is for you, the next step is the Pretreatment preparation
